Great Big Green Week -Gisborough Priory Project Events

Help Keep Our Space Green Thursday 13th June 10.00am – 4.00pm

Gisborough Priory Project (GPP) is responsible for opening Gisborough Priory, an English Heritage Free to enter Site,  and the adjacent woodland garden free of charge to the public, from March to early November, 10.00am – 4,00pm Wednesday to Sunday plus Bank Holidays. The Priory offers an historic  tranquil open space to all who visit us, whilst the woodland offers a restful space to wander or sit amongst our historic trees.

Our ‘Help Keep Our Space Green’ event is an information event for potential volunteers to find out more about our project and how they can help.   We need volunteers to help us to continue to open the Priory to the public and maintain our woodland so are offering a volunteer open day for people to find out how they can get involved.

Site guides are responsible for opening the site to the public and talking to our visitors about the history of the Priory and woodland.  They cover either a morning or afternoon session and minimum commitment is one session a month.  Full training is given.

Gardeners help maintain the Priory woodland gardens and have restored, recreated and revitalised it in keeping with its long history.  At its centre, the historic Monk’s Walk, a kite shaped avenue of lime trees which forms a cathedral of trees.  Paths wander around the garden which now reflects different periods in the garden’s history from 1700 to today.  Gardening sessions are on Monday and Thursday mornings with no minimum commitment.  Instructions are given and tools are provided.

To encourage families to visit and to support our work we hold a small number of free events over the year. We need volunteers to help at the event and bake cakes for sale.  Volunteering is on an ‘as and when’ basis with no minimum commitment During our ‘Help Keep Our Space Green’ event volunteers will be on hand to share their experiences and provide information
