Yesterday the Mayor of Guisborough, Alma Thrower, unveiled the 900th anniversary mosaic in Gisborough Priory. Among the special guests were Helen Gaunt and Derek Mosey (the artists who designed the mosaic), Sally Wilson (English Heritage) and Lord Gisborough.
An appreciative crowd of visitors was full of admiration for the mosaic and found out more about its design from Christine Clarke (secretary of Gisborough Priory Project).
This was our first open day of 2020 and the sun came out to welcome over 400 visitors who braved the windy conditions to admire not only the mosaic, but also the thousands of snowdrops and other spring flowers in the woodland gardens.
Refreshments were available to visitors as well as snowdrops and winter aconites sold by Mike Heagney. Almost £480 was raised from refreshment sales and visitor donations – a wonderful start to the year.
